ScanSource Adds SonicWALL Point-of-Sale Security Platform

ScanSource will offer SonicWALL’s firewall, virtual private networking, wireless and remote access solutions to retail point-of-sale solution providers.

SonicWALL provides businesses and organizations a complete suite of products and services for secure and reliable network communications. By utilizing SonicWALL’s offerings, solution providers’ end-user customers will benefit from increased productivity, reliable security, virus protection and flexible network connectivity, all at a competitive price.

“Security can no longer be an afterthought,” said Buck Baker, senior vice president of merchandising for ScanSource. “Our solution providers understand the importance of secure networks; that’s why we’re eager and excited to be working with a top-notch company such as SonicWALL, as they provide the solutions needed to protect vulnerable POS systems.”

ScanSource is the only specialty technology distributor offering SonicWALL’s security products to its solution providers, many of whom have been installing networked point-of-sale (POS) systems for their end-user customers.

“ScanSource is the premier specialty distributor focusing on the retail POS market, and SonicWALL offers the best retail security solution on the market today,” said Douglas Brockett, vice president of worldwide marketing at SonicWALL. “Together, more stores and restaurants will be able to take advantage of advanced technologies to improve the flow of critical retail communications such as credit card processing, and inventory and sales reporting, as well as improve the mobility of staff with the latest wireless solutions. We are pleased to have formed this alliance with ScanSource.”

Networked POS systems that are not properly protected can put valuable information, including personal customer data and credit card information, at risk to damaging viruses and hackers. Resellers who provide security solutions to their end-user customers will be offering a valuable service that could prevent costly downtime and network safety issues.

Upstate Council for Entrepreneurial Development Announces March Program

UCED_Banner: The UCED exists to improve the climate for emerging, growth-oriented and high-impact companies across upstate South Carolina.

The UCED has announced its second program in the Spring agenda, Building a Management Team & Advisory Board. The program is scheduled for March 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the University Center. Ronald C. Reece, Ph.D. of Reece & Associates, P.A. and Susan A. Lill, SPHR, CHRP of AERIE Engineering, and Align HR Services will present on how businesses can develop strong management teams, one of the first things investors look at when determining whether to provide financial backing to a promising firm or idea.

As a Psychologist in private practice since 1975, Dr. Reece has focused on consultation with family and non-family closely-held businesses to help them deal with the unique aspects of these close relationships, business demands, generational transition, and change management issues. He has extensive experience consulting with businesses, state organizations, schools, hospitals and families.

Susan Lill has extensive experience in new business start-ups, recruitment, retention, performance management and organizational development initiatives. A certified senior HR professional (SPHR) in the United States and Canada (CPHR), Lill is co-founder and vice president of a local engineering services firm, AERIE Engineering, which was a finalist for the 2003 Small Business of the Year by the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce. She is also founder of Align HR Services, which focuses on helping organizations in strategic planning, process improvement, diversity training, management training and development, culture audits and HR assessments.

High-impact companies are the pulse from which economic success in any area is measured. UCED developed its Spring agenda to address the need for developing a strong knowledge-based infrastructure in which gazelles, startups and high-impact companies can prosper in the Upstate. Leading up to the first-ever venture capital forum in the Upstate, the InnoVenture Conference, scheduled for May 20, the UCED will be addressing the following topics in April and May:

April 5 – Raising Venture Capital – Venture Capital accounts for a very small percent of overall business investment in the Upstate. What will it take to change that and why is it important?

May 3 – Initial Public Offerings and Exit Strategy – Your business is cash flow positive, stable and successful. Have you identified the next generation? Learn about which options are best for you and your business—exit strategies, autonomy, or going public.

The UCED exists to improve the climate for emerging, growth-oriented and high-impact companies across the upstate. UCED helps improve the flow of ideas, services and capital to entrepreneurs and helps to connect companies to expertise and other resources they need to grow their businesses. Lockwood Greene Named Top Engineering-Construction Firm by Food Processing Readers

Lockwood Greene (www.lg.com) today announced that Food Processing magazine’s readers have dubbed the company as the top engineering-construction (E&C) firm for the food industry. Based upon a survey sent to more than 15,000 subscribers, Lockwood Greene was named the 2004 “Reader’s Choice” award winner.

Bill Kinross, Publisher of Food Processing (www.foodprocessing.com) explained that Lockwood Greene’s name was cited more often than any other E&C firm in an opened-ended question. The survey was based purely upon subscriber recall of industry’s best E&C firm. Food Processing’s more than 65,000 subscribers include the key decision-makers for new food product and manufacturing issues, who are uniquely qualified to choose the best overall supplier of E&C services.

Lockwood Greene is also noted year-in and year-out as a top firm in the foods industry based upon Engineering News Record’s (ENR) annual “Design 500 Sourcebook.” For the past 5 years, Lockwood Greene has ranked as one of the top eight firms serving the foods and beverages market. Two of those years, including the most recent, Lockwood Greene was garnered the top spot based upon engineering revenues. ENR annually ranks E&C firms based upon annual revenues in various industries.

Lockwood Greene is a global business partner for engineering and construction for the food & beverages, manufacturing, power, chemicals and pharmaceuticals industries. With headquarters in Spartanburg, South Carolina, it is the oldest, continuously operating professional services firm in the U.S. Lockwood Greene has 2,500 professionals working from 30 worldwide office locations. Lockwood Greene is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CH2M HILL. (www.ch2mhill.com)
