Sealevel Wins Small Enterprise Award

Liberty, SC (November 12th, 2004) – InnoVision, the premier awards program focused exclusively on celebrating achievements in innovation and technological excellence in the 10-county South Carolina Upstate region, has selected Sealevel Systems, Inc. as the 2004 recipient of the Small Enterprise Award. The Small Enterprise Award recognizes a small business entity for the innovative application or development of a technology-based product, process or service. Sealevel was chosen from a host of other entries for the design and development of the Relio family of solid-state industrial computers.

The Relio represents the next step in industrial computing, combining the reliability of a programmable logic computer (PLC) with the versatility of a personal computer. Relio systems operate with no moving parts over a wide temperature range. Unreliable hard drives and fans, responsible for most computer failures, are not needed. Applications are typically developed and run under the new Microsoft XP Embedded (XPe) operating system and execute from CompactFlash memory cards.

Relio systems are designed for 19” rackmount and offer a wide range of input/output functionality to facilitate real-world control and monitoring applications. Dual 10/100BaseT Ethernet, four RS-232/422/485 serial ports, four USB ports, and multimedia-video are standard on all Relio systems. A key element of the design is the ability to add up to three PC/104 expansion modules. Sealevel offers multi-interface serial, optically isolated input, Reed relay output, and TTL output, analog to digital (A/D), digital to analog (D/A), and wireless Ethernet expansion options. Each option is equipped with an I/O connector module that mounts into any of the three expansion sites in the enclosure back panel, allowing any combination of up to three expansion modules. I/O can then be directly wired to the Relio’s back chassis.

For more information on Sealevel Systems, please contact Earle Foster at Sealevel, by phone at (864) 843-4343, or by email at earlef@sealevel.com.

New Website Features Largest Collection of Extended Stay Hotels in America; Guarantees Lowest Rates on the Internet

Gary DeLapp, President and CEO of HVM L.L.C., the operator of Extended Stay Hotels, announced today the launch of a new website (ExtendedStayHotels.com) that gives business and leisure travelers access to the most comprehensive and convenient extended stay reservations system in the United States. The easy-to-use website offers a choice of over 650 extended stay locations. The website also includes a guarantee that if a lower, publicly available, nightly rate is found on any travel booking engine for the same Extended Stay Hotels(SM) property over the same dates, it will honor that rate and include an additional 10 percent nightly rate discount.

“We’re making it easy to find and book hotels that provide extended stay lodging, ” says DeLapp. “Consolidating brands within this one segment of the hospitality industry means that when people are looking for an extended stay hotel they will likely find it at ExtendedStayHotels.com.” Properties initially featured on the website are Extended StayAmerica(R), Homestead Studio Suites(R), StudioPLUS Deluxe Studios(R) and Crossland Economy Studios(R), collectively reaching all destinations from coast to coast. Thirty-seven former Wellesley Inn and Suites became part of the Extended Stay Hotels family in October 2004 and are now part of the Extended StayAmerica brand, as well.

“Few designated extended stay hotel booking sites offer such a broad range of products and locations,” says Mark Skinner, partner with the hospitality consulting firm, The Highland Group.

The site has an enhanced hotel search option that allows users to drill down to find information they need about individual hotel properties, including specific amenities, room layouts, virtual tours, driving directions and local points of interest like nearby restaurants, movie theaters and other businesses. There is also an option to create a password-protected personal identification page where billing address, credit card and contact information is stored in the system, thus eliminating the need to re-enter the same information when subsequent reservations are made. Existing reservations may also be accessed at ExtendedStayHotels.com for viewing or to make modifications.

DeLapp says, “Extended Stay Hotels is taking extraordinary steps to provide for the needs of extended stay travelers. Service is a top priority and Extended Stay Hotels is setting new benchmarks for how customers should expect to be treated in this industry.”

The new website is one of many industry improvements that have been made since the consolidated marketing of the Extended Stay America and Homestead Studio Suites Hotels(R) brands began in May, 2004. Today, there is an Extended Stay HotelsSM property in most major markets in the U.S., making it the country’s largest and most comprehensive collection of extended stay properties.

According to The Highland Group, demand for extended stay hotels increased by 6.8 percent in the first quarter 2004 compared to one year prior. Room demand is outpacing room availability, which leads many to believe the extended-stay category is on pace to return to pre-9/11 days when the extended stay industry held a 12-point premium occupancy rate (69.3%) over the entire hotel industry.

Hotels offering extended stay lodging are particularly attractive to travelers such as corporate trainers and consultants on extended projects; relocating employees; leisure travelers visiting relatives/friends or in need of temporary housing; and construction crews. They typically feature separate living, dining and sleeping areas, plenty of work space and a fully-equipped kitchen including a stovetop, refrigerator and microwave oven. All of the properties featured at ExtendedStayHotels.com include conveniences such as an on-site 24-hour laundry facility, free voice mail and computer dataports, and some locations also provide leisure facilities including swimming pools and exercise facilities. All Homestead Studio Suites(R) and some Extended StayAmerica(R) hotels currently have wireless high-speed Internet service, and all properties within the Extended Stay Hotels family will have Wi-Fi access by March, 2005.

IBM Joins Automotive Open Systems Architecture

IBM announced today that it has become the newest member of the Automotive Open Systems Architecture (AUTOSAR) consortium. AUTOSAR is a partnership of key players in the automotive, electronics and software industries dedicated to managing the complexities of rapidly increasing electronics and software technology in vehicles through the creation and adoption of globally recognized, open-standards-based platforms.

The announcement comes just weeks after IBM launched its Embedded Systems Lifecycle Management (ESLM) business initiative, which delivers a cohesive and comprehensive set of business and engineering consulting services, development and integration services, architectural frameworks and engineering tools for the entire vehicle systems and software lifecycle. ESLM is precisely aligned with AUTOSAR’s goals: to leverage member cooperation for the creation of open platforms that will standardize central architectural elements throughout the auto industry and its supply chain. Such standardization will generate not only a dramatic improvement in worldwide vehicle quality, but also a new level of industry competition that is focused squarely on what matters most… more

Datastream Systems, Inc. Faces Delisting

Datastream Systems, Inc. announced today that it received a notification of noncompliance from the Listing Qualifications Department at The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (“Nasdaq”). The Company expected to receive the notification because of the delay in filing its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2004 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the “Commission”), which was due to continuing work on the previously announced investigation and accounting review. The notification states that the Company is in material noncompliance with Rule 4310(c)(14) of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (the “NASD”) for continued listing on Nasdaq. NASD Rule 4310(c)(14) requires that a listed company file with Nasdaq all reports and other documents filed or required to be filed with the Commission. The notification begins a process that includes an avenue for appeals, which the Company will follow.

Unless the Company requests a hearing on the matter before a Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Panel (the “Panel”), the notification states that the Company’s securities will be delisted from Nasdaq at the opening of business on November 26, 2004. The Company is in the process of requesting the hearing. Under the NASD Marketplace Rules, the hearing request will stay the delisting process pending the Panel’s decision. During this process, the Company’s shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq, but its trading symbol will change from DSTM to DSTME as of the opening of trading on November 18, 2004. The Company’s delay in filing its Form 10-Q is the only listing deficiency cited in the notification. Once the Company files its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2004 with the Commission, the Company expects to be compliant with Nasdaq listing standards.

The Company also announced that it is continuing its review, implementation and testing efforts under Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, including enhanced staff and consulting resources. However, the focused application of critical resources to the Company’s on-going accounting review and the preparation of filings and ancillary documents are having a significant impact on its Section 404 compliance efforts.

Such standardization will generate not only a dramatic improvement in worldwide vehicle quality, but also a new level of industry competition that is focused squarely on what matters most: issues of implementation.

Key members of AUTOSAR besides IBM include BMW, Volkswagen, DaimlerChrysler, Bosch, Siemens and Continental Tevis among dozens of other international firms. Founded in 2002, AUTOSAR was formally launched in July 2003.

The growth of AUTOSAR has been spurred by the acceleration of technology in IT enablement and in-vehicle systems, which will continue to expand over the next 10 years. With that acceleration will continue to come enormous complexity and challenge:

– Today’s automotive electronic development processes are difficult to manage, since embedded systems involve hardware, software, and electrical systems

– The interrelationships between hardware, software, and electrical systems in a single vehicle model cause unprecedented complexity

– Complex systems of smart devices are difficult and time-consuming to develop and expensive to recall – but are required to meet and drive new demand

– The lack of automotive embedded-systems standards for architecture and software makes it difficult for automotive suppliers and OEM’s to efficiently handle the increasingly complex engineering workload

– Compared to when the vehicle was primarily a mechanical system (making development and failure prediction much simpler tasks), today’s cars and trucks are increasingly becoming electronics systems.

In this new environment, the digital and electronics world also brings with it new options for behavioral modeling, auto-code generation, simulation and testing as well as software asset reuse; it presents enormous opportunities to the automotive engineering community in terms of facilitating innovation and speeding embedded systems development.

To address both challenges and the opportunities, automotive suppliers today invest in research and development (R&D) at double-digit percentage levels. By 2015, embedded systems are expected to account for 60 percent of automotive research and development (R&D) costs alone – not including production costs. Both IBM and AUTOSAR are dedicated to ensuring improved returns on all such investments.

“With a world that grows increasingly dependent on the functions supplied by embedded software, it’s a fact that embedded software development and management is immature as compared to other engineering disciplines,” said Janette Beauchamp, General Manager, IBM Global Automotive Industry. “In joining AUTOSAR, we see significant opportunity to share our thought leadership, experience, processes and frameworks to address the growing complexity in embedded and distributed computing systems in vehicles with some of the finest players in the automotive, electronics and software industries – and do so in an environment that so strongly supports open standards around the world.”

IBM will join AUTOSAR as a Premium Member. In that capacity, IBM will both participate in and act as a leader for select working groups, such as those focusing on process, methods, architectures, standards, configuration management and transformation. The company will also make ongoing technical contributions and, in return, share in the full pool of information contributed by other members of the consortium. IBM’s clients will benefit from the new association as AUTOSAR embraces accelerated movement to high-performance devices and computing, the use of common building blocks for vehicle development, and the simultaneous reuse and protection of intellectual property.
