GSATC is Podcasting its meetings!

Since July of this year, the GSA Technology Council has been podcasting, albeit a bit under the radar. Podcasting means that we have been producing a regular audio broadcast and making it available for download.

You could even subscribe to the feed via RSS if you wanted to and knew the address, but it was a secret while we worked the glitches out. Good news! We are still working out the glitches, but you are invited to give it a whirl and see what you think.

All of the instructions and links to the audio are on this page: http://feeds.feedburner.com/gsatcaudio

Miss our great meetings with Scott Millwood, Colin Martin, Haidee Stith, or Leighton Cubbage? No worries, they are all here.

South Carolina BlueCross Ranked by InformationWeek as a Top Technology Company

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is ranked 172nd on the annual InformationWeek 500 list announced this week. The top 2006 InformationWeek 500 companies were revealed at a gala awards ceremony held during the InformationWeek 500 Conference in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Unique among corporate rankings, the InformationWeek 500 spotlights the power of innovation in business technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders. Candidates had to complete an application that examined key IT strategies. It included a quantitative analysis of tech initiatives and priorities and a qualitative assessment using essay responses. The responses to all parts of the survey were evaluated, weighted, and combined into a total score, which is the basis for the ranking. The selection criteria are determined by the magazine’s editors.

Vonage Turns Up E911 in Los Angeles — five Carolina counties covered

Vonage has announced that its subscribers in Los Angeles, California, are now equipped with Enhanced 911 (E911) – a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party’s telephone number.

In addition to Los Angeles, Vonage recently turned up E911 at more than 125 local run emergency call centers across the U.S. in less than one month — bringing the total percentage of Vonage U.S. subscriber lines that have E911 to over 89 percent.

At this point, only in one county in South Carolina (Calhoun) and four in North Carolina has Vonage connected to E911.

Vonage’s nomadic E911 solution gives customers the ability to reach a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), or 911 center, through the dedicated 911 network infrastructure. With Vonage’s nomadic E911 solution, a customer’s call is automatically routed to the appropriate 911 center, with the caller’s registered street address and telephone number appearing on the dispatcher screen — regardless of where or what exchange they are calling from. Vonage was the first to provide nomadic VoIP E911 in California, and will continue to turn up and test new PSAPs that are VoIP-ready.
