This year’s contest was officially kicked off with the “Tour de Bulb”, a four-city tour of South Carolina in which last yearÂ’s winners passed the torch of creativity and business innovation to other South Carolina citizens. The “light bulb torch” was transported by an official Plug-In Hybrid vehicle through the main city streets of Greenville, Columbia, Florence and finally arrived in Charleston. Jim Poch, head of the South Carolina Plug-In-Hybrid Coalition and one of last yearÂ’s winners, gained the support for use of a vehicle to launch the statewide New Ideas Tour de Bulb.
Prizes for the 2008 contest have increased significantly over last year and will be awarded at the ThinkTEC Innovation Summit June 4 at Trident Technical College in the categories of Engineering, Information Technology, BioScience, Environmental Sustainability and a Wild Card category. There will be one $5,000 Grand Prize, four $2,500 First Place Winners and five $1,000 Runners-Up. Ideas are judged by South Carolina leaders from angel capital groups, businesses, non-profits, government entities and educational institutions. Winners are chosen based on the ideaÂ’s viability, innovation/vision and profit/revenue potential.
Submit your idea at www.newideassc.com before May 1, 2008.
