MHS robotics team sweeps regional

“The Mauldin High School Robotics Team 1319 swept the Peachtree Regional competition March 13-15, according to team leader and MHS teacher Nancy Zende.

Mauldin’s team played 10 qualifying matches, finishing as the only undefeated team in the tournament, out of 45 teams from seven states, Zende said.

The Peachtree Regional was held at the Gwinnett County Civic Center in Duluth, Ga. The competition is like a state tournament, but bigger, she said.

Mauldin was the No. 1 seed going into the elimination matches, Zende said, and the team earned the tournament’s top three scores in each of the elimination matches.

The competition, which changes yearly, teaches high school students to use mathematics and engineering know-how to compete in a game with rules but without a defined strategy or known opponents.”
