The Upstate South Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (Upstate SC ASTD) has opened an office at the University Center of Greenville (UCG) in Greenville, SC. Located in the UCG library, this office gives the chapter its first physical address as well as a branded presence in an environment of shared goals and values.
“With UCG serving as our chapter host sponsor, this office space will enable us to better serve our members’ needs and to build more awareness of our organization in the community,” says Betty Parker Ellis, the Upstate SC ASTD chapter president who also owns Communication Works, LLC, a public relations and training company.
The chapter draws over 55 members from across the Upstate as well as western NC. They work as trainers, professors, instructional designers, managers, and business owners from large corporations to small consulting companies to academia to government ranging from manufacturers, suppliers, nonprofit, and service sectors. Reorganized and chartered in 2006, the chapter’s vision is to be the Upstate leader in workplace learning and performance, and its mission is to provide training professionals in the Upstate with continuous learning and development opportunities.
“We are pleased to welcome the Upstate SC Chapter of ASTD to the University Center of Greenville,” says UCG president and CEO David A. Taylor. “This is a great fit for us since we are a multi-organizational hub that provides collaborative space and shared resources, all with the end goal of improving the educational access for the Upstate community. By bringing together public and private sector leaders and higher education institutions, UCG is positioned to meet the education and talent needs of local citizens and to help drive Greenville’s economic competitiveness.”
