GSP Developers look at new .NET

The GSP Developers Guild will meet on Tuesday October 16th at 6 PM. Doug Turnure, a Microsoft Developer Envangelist will cover the new additions in the upcoming upgrade to the .NET framework. He will specifically talk about the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), and Windows Cardspaces.

Coming from Atlanta, the group’s speaker has previously spent five years as an instructor and course author with DevelopMentor and Aggelos, Inc in the subects of VB.NET, C#, and ASP.NET. The meeting is free and open to the public. More information and RSVP instructions at www.gspdevelopers.org.

GSP Developers Guild to discuss Web Part development

Arguably one of the hottest technologies to emerge from Microsoft over the past several years, Microsoft Office Sharepoint Services and Microsoft Office Sharepoint Portal Server enable large and small groups alike to collaborate in new and exciting ways.

The February Enterprise Developer’s Guild meeting will discuss how developers can easily develop custom web parts that expose data froma variety of sources in a clean, approachable portal environment.

The GSP Developers Guild meets Feb. 21st at 6:00pm at Greenville Technical College, Bldg 103 Rm 142.

GSP Developers Meet Tonight

The GSP Developer’s Guild meets at 6PM on July 19th for two presentations. The first, “Unit Testing Stored Procs in SQL Server” will be presented by Paul Waters of Neurocomm. The second presentation will feature an overview of SQL Server 2005 (Yukon), presented by Tara Walker of Microsoft. QS/1 Announces New Business Relationship With eVitamins

GSP Developers Guild meets November 16 to discuss BizTalk Server 2004 presented by Mark Dunn, president of Dunn Training & Consulting, Inc. (www.dunntraining.com) and Media Data Services, Inc. (www.mdstrendz.com) both based in Atlanta, Georgia. Mark has over 18 years of experience with Microsoft technologies. He began programming with QuickBasic 4.0 and was the lead developer of Tapscan, a radio ratings software package, that is still dominant in the industry. Mark has worked with BizTalk Server since the first version was in Beta release. He has participated in the development or review of all the official Microsoft curriculum including the 2004 version. Greenville Technical College to Sponsor Programs of the Greenville Spartanburg Anderson Technology Council

The GSP Developers Guild meets on Tuesday, September 21st to discuss ASP.NET Best Practices. In particular, the group will take a look at the best practices for ASP.NET web forms, server-side web controls, caching, and state management and will review some ADO.NET best practices which will allow you to create fast loading, scalable web pages. After this session, you will have a better understanding about what to do and what NOT to do when coding your next ASP.NET web application.

The presenter, Carl Prothman, is a Microsoft ASP.NET Most Valuable Professional (MVP). He holds a Certified Computer Professional (CCP) from Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP). As an internationally known .NET training and lecturer, Carl has spoken at several major conferences such as VSLive, VBITS, TechEd, and also to several local Users groups such as the Seattle.NET Users group and the .NET Developers Association in Redmond, Washington. Carl teaches ADO.NET and ASP.NET over at Bellevue Community College (BCC). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics (BSAA) degree from the University of Washington. Carl has work for customers such as Microsoft, Boeing, and Rockwell International, and is currently the president of Able Consulting, Inc.

Indexx, Inc. adds one to e-commerce division

Have you heard about Sharepoint Services, included (FREE) with Windows Server 2003? Microsoft has recently released the second version of its Sharepoint Services groupware/collaboration product as an extension to the base Windows 2003 Server OS with very little fanfare and almost no marketing.


The February meeting of the GSP Developers Guild will be a great place to learn about Sharepoint and see how it might fit into your overall development plans for 2004. The meeting will cover installation and administration, as well as Sharepoint’s use as a development platform.


The presenters will be Alex Dresko of Three Point Oh!, and Chris Johnson, a .NET architect, consultant and founder of Thunder Hole Software.

Java Users Group Meets Nov. 17

The GSP Developers Guild will meet Tuesday, Nov 18th 
at TEC Knowledge at 600 Laurens Road at  6:30 PM. At the meeting, Glen Gordon from Microsoft will present the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Office.  Glen will discuss how to leverage Visual Studio .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework to develop business solutions built on MS Word 2003 and MS Excel 2003.
