PMI Chapter Meeting – The Practical Use of Mindmapping

The May PMI Chapter meeting with feature a presentation on the topic, The Practical Use of Mindmapping as it relates to the lifecycle of Project Management presented by Brandon Conrad.

Brandon is a Product Manager with MatchWare Incorporated specializing in bridging the gap between mind mapping and project management.  Over the last 5 years with MatchWare, Brandon has successfully helped develop the implementation of project management rules as it relates to mind mapping software. On a day to day basis Brandon helps develop the sales and marketing efforts in the North American and European markets.

PMP Study Group Starting Tuesday

The Palmetto Chapter of PMI, the Project Management Institute, offers a study group for those preparing to sit for the PMP exam. The group is a free service to those who are members of PMI. For more information about the group and the local PMI chapter, visit their website.

Each session will be on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Michelin Headquarters, located off Pelham Rd.

Project of the Year Award Winner to speak at January PMI

The Palmetto Chapter of the Project Management Institute meets at 6 PM on January 21 for a presentation from the 2009 PMI Project of the Year Award winner.

Presenter, Richard Gerspacher is an executive with Fluor in the Power Business Group. He is currently leading the design and construction of a $3 billion energy facility in west Texas.

The Project Management Institute’s (PMI) annual awards ceremony held during the PMI® Global Congress—North America in Orlando, Florida, USA presented PMI’s Project of the Year to Fluor’s Newmont TS Power Plant project for their work on a state-of-the-art power plant in rural Nevada. Faced with a dearth of skilled talent and the threat of increased environmental regulation, the team brought the project in under budget and 10 weeks early.

As the January PMI meeting, hear Robert discuss that particulars of that award winning project.

PMP Exam Study Group to Meet Weekly Aug 25, 2009 – Nov. 10, 2009

The Palmetto PMI chapter sponsors a  PMP study group which is generally held in the spring and fall. Students from  our  area meet one evening a week for 12 weeks.  The study group is a free service for Palmetto PMI chapter members.
Each weekly meeting covers 1 chapter of the PM Book :
  Understanding PMBoK and the PMP exam
Project Management Framework
Integration Management
Scope Management
Time Management
Cost Management
Quality Management
Human Resource Management
Communications Management
Risk Management
Procurement Management
Professional Responsibility

When the study group begins, the students /groups of students  each choose the topic(s) that they will “lead”. It is recommended that students chose a topic where they have less understanding, as preparation to lead the discussion is a proven learning technique.

ATE: August 25th – November 10th
TIME: 6-8pm
LOCATION: Michelin (I85 & Pelham)
MORE: Each student should obtain a copy of the study materials: the PMBoK Guide 4th Edition, and Rita Mulcahy’s PMP Exam Prep, 6th Edition.
