Bob Geolas

Executive Director Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research

Bob Geolas joined the International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) at Clemson University in April 2004. As director, Geolas is responsible for overall leadership and management of the Clemson auto research campus. He recruits additional partners from the automotive and motorsports industries and coordinates the private and public sectors activities in an effort to create an environment where world-class education, research and business activities will flourish.

A graduate of North Carolina State University, Geolas has worked as executive assistant to the North Carolina secretary of transportation and as legislative liason for the N.C. speaker of the house. He has served on the Commission for a Competitive North Carolina, the N.C. Governor’s Task Force for Regionalism and the N.C. Governor’s Policy Council. Geolas served as top manager at the 1,334-acre Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University from 2000 until he joined CU-ICAR. In his N.C. State position, Geolas provided direct oversight for Centennial Campus and Centennial Biomedical Campus.

Peter Coffee

PeterCoffee-smPeter Coffee joined salesforce.com in January of 2007, after spending 18 years as an analyst and columnist at the enterprise technology journal eWEEK (including time under its former title PC Week). Based in the Los Angeles area, he currently works with corporate and commercial application developers to build a community based on Force.com: the salesforce.com Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

Peter has 27 years’ experience in guiding the adoption and management of innovative information technologies and practices as a developer, consultant, educator, and internationally published author. He has appeared on CBS, CNN, NBC, PBS, Fox, India’s Network 18 and Mexico’s Grupo Fórmula newscasts addressing a broad range of eBusiness issues. He chaired the four-day Web Security Summit conference in Boston during the summer of 2000; he has been a keynote speaker, moderator or workshop leader at technical conferences, business and academic events throughout the U.S. and in India, Singapore, Australia, China, Korea, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands.

Peter was previously the first manager of PC planning at The Aerospace Corporation, where he also worked in space systems project management and in space-asset applications of artificial intelligence techniques. Before that, he was a Senior Engineer working in arctic project planning, chemical facility construction management, and alternative-fuels engineering for several divisions of Exxon Corporation. He holds an engineering degree from MIT and an MBA from Pepperdine University, where he also served as a faculty member for the core curriculum in IT management; he has held other faculty appointments in computer science (artificial intelligence) at UCLA and in business analytics at Chapman College. He is the author of two books, How To Program Java and Peter Coffee Teaches PCs.

Ralph Heredia

Ralph_HerediaRalph Heredia is the Vice President of business development and co-founder of Zipit Wireless, Inc., in Greenville, S.C. He is directly responsible for all aspects of product development, innovation, research, marketing and customer/partner relationships. Heredia is also the inventor of Zipit’s first & second Wireless Messenger instant messaging devices for teens and pre-teens introduced respectively in late 2004 & and 2007.

Heredia has more than 28 years of experience in the consumer electronics, personal computer and multimedia industries. Prior to helping establish Zipit, he helped established the Consumer Media Systems division at Aeronix in 2002. In addition, he has also held management and product development positions with several mid-sized technology companies, including Escient/OpenGlobe and avACTIVE. Heredia was also the systems architecture manager for Cirrus Logic. Prior to that, he held several positions, including senior principal analyst for NCR Corporation and was a member of the technical staff at AT&T’s Bell Labs (now part of Lucent Corporation), where he worked for almost 14 years.

He has worked in a management, product development or marketing role on developing the technology used in many of today’s “staple” electronics products including MP3 players, DVD recorders and players and Internet radio receivers.

Heredia has had an extensive education in all aspects of electronics and computer sciences, has authored a chapter in the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1999 and has been granted eight U.S. patents for various inventions related to the technology field. A dedicated husband, and father of two sons, Heredia enjoys music, hiking/camping with the Boy Scouts and socializing with friends.

Pamela Ansley Evans

Pamela EvansPam Evans has responsibility for IBM Worldwide web marketing strategies, web analytics and content on Software Group customer websites in over 70 countries. A digital marketing and Globalization leader for ibm.com marketing, Ms Evans conducts workshops with sales and marketing teams on how to use the web to engage new prospects and generate leads.

Evans joined IBM in 1980 as an editor of a divisional magazine and spent 15 years in corporate communications before assuming responsibility for developing the marketing programs for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games where IBM launched its first online catalog.

At IBM she has led teams in the development of web marketing for the last 12 years, working to integrate telesales with customer websites and launch relationship marketing programs including the Gold Service program which was acknowledged as an industry leading practice by Peppers and Rogers. These marketing programs have been recognized by the Direct Marketing Association and received numerous marketing awards.

Ms Evans earned an MBA degree in marketing from Georgia State University and a BA in English from Georgia Southern University. She serves as a charter member of iDirect, Vice Chairman of the Direct Marketing Associations’ B2B Council and speaks frequently to professional marketing and sales groups.

She was named as the Marketer of the Year for 2008 by Target Marketing Magazine and one of the top 100 marketers by B to B Magazine in 2006 and 2007.

John Tully

tullyJohn Tully, in his 35 year career has served Michelin in a variety of management positions. He began his career in New York working in the Marketing and Sales support function. He most recently served for 3 years as the President of Michelin Development (Canada) inc. in Ontario, Canada. Prior to this assignment he was the North American Director of Community Relations for Michelin North America, Inc.

John has now been charged with directing and implementing Michelin Development in Upstate, SC . for the corporation. This is a 20 year old Michelin program that had been introduced to North America in 2006 and is now being implemented in the U.S. This program is focused on creating new quality, sustainable jobs in the 10 counties of Upstate, SC. The program will provide low cost loans and access to Michelin’s considerable in-house business expertise to disadvantaged start-up, small- & medium-sized businesses.

John has a BA degree in Journalism and Sociology from Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ. He lives in Greenville, SC, with his wife, Marianne, a K-5 teacher.

Matt Dunbar

Matt DunbarMatt Dunbar is Managing Director of the Upstate Carolina Angel Network, a group of accredited investors who support high-growth startup ventures in South Carolina and the Southeast. In his role as Managing Director, Matt is responsible for the day to day operations of the investor network, including the group’s efforts to screen, select, evaluate and structure early stage equity investments.

Matt graduated from Clemson University in 1999 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. While at Clemson, he had the opportunity to serve as Student Body President and to participate in the cooperative education program with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN. Following graduation, Matt joined the company full-time as a manufacturing development engineer in the specialty polymers division. He later served as an applications development specialist, a role in which he worked with Eastman’s customers and scientists to develop new product enhancements and business line extensions.

In 2003, Matt left Eastman to enroll in the MBA program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he was introduced to the Silicon Valley ethos of new venture formation and finance. While at Stanford, Matt also earned a Master of Arts in Education along with his MBA.

Upon graduation from the GSB, Matt joined the Boston Consulting Group in their Atlanta office. BCG is a global management consultancy, helping Fortune 500 companies develop and execute effective strategies to create and sustain competitive advantage. During his time with BCG, Matt helped world-class consumer goods, transportation, and energy organizations develop top-line growth strategies and bottom-line asset optimization programs.

After several years away, Matt is thrilled to be back in his home state, working alongside many others to help foster the growth of entrepreneurial activity and the knowledge economy in South Carolina.

Greg Blake

Greg Blake, (BA, MS) is the 6’7” Chief “Encouragement” Officer for PepWorks International based in Greenville, SC. He is one of the leading corporate “edutainers” in America today.

Before founding PepWorks, Greg was the Leadership Development and Diversity Specialist for the Greenville Hospital system, BMW, and Denny’s. He now is pursuing his life-long passion to “Positively Encourage Professionals in the workplace.”

Phil Yanov

Phil YanovPhil Yanov is a writer, columnist, speaker, podcaster and radio guy who has spent his whole life working in technology. He has been an invited professor at the university level. He has spoken to and inspired packed auditoriums of technology professionals and is the Founder and President of the GSA Technology Council as well as the IT Leadership Council. He is a frequent interview subject to technology stories appearing on WYFF-TV. He discusses technology issues in his Gears and Gadgets column published in Greenville Magazine and may be heard on the Your Day Radio Program which is carried across South Carolina on the NPR affiliate stations.

Kevin Kelly

Kevin Kelly is in Business Development for Amazon Web Services helping accounts on the East Coast with a focus on New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Before joining Amazon Kevin was a Senior Technical Staff Member (STSM) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Tools for IBM Global Business Services (GBS) providing strategic guidance and direction for software development and support tooling usage worldwide. Prior to that he had several roles in IBM Software Group where he managed and lead successful product development and delivery of Eclipse client and Web based applications using Java, XML, and JavaScript. Before that he was a Senior Development Manager and Architect leading development in change request management and requirements tooling for the IBM Rational Brand.

Before joining IBM, Kevin worked for the Rational Software Corporation where he worked with customers using Rational products, teaching training courses, and became a District Technical Lead and Account Executive. He also lead development of Rational products including Rational Rose for UML modeling and developed custom integrations with Partners and System Integrators. Kevin worked on several large projects including the International Space Station and federal projects in New Mexico and Colorado.

Before joining Rational, he worked in the automotive software industry developing in-vehicle embedded applications, and prior to that he served as a Programming and Analysis Officer in the United States Air Force.

Kevin has been the Chairman of the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) Compound Document Format Working Group and lead that open standards working group in developing the Web Interactive Compound Document (WICD) profile for mobile and desktop devices. He has also served as the W3C Advisory Council Representative for Health Level 7(HL7). Kevin is HL7 certified and is a member of INCOSE and HIMSS.

Kevin is based in Northern Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Mercer University, and a Master’s of Information Systems from the University of Montana.

Lonnie J. Emard

Lonnie has 27 years of experience in the I/T industry, and has managed a variety of disciplines. In his 18 years with Amoco, he managed large d/b systems, high volume business application systems, directed the national retail support help desk, and initiated the Shared Services Business Intelligence function. Between 1989 and 2001, he worked on several major organization re-design efforts and began integrating Organization Development Theory into IT. Two of the projects, one with Hallmark and the other with British Petroleum received national acclaim. His efforts during this time also included roles as Executive lead recruiter where he began developing innovative techniques for academic and industry collaboration.

Lonnie joined BlueCross BlueShield in 2002 as the Director of Staff Resource Management for the I/S Division. He is responsible for the Managing People Program, which includes best practices in Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Talent Management and Talent Retention. He introduced the OSD Model as a valuable framework for the Institute for the Management of Information Technology (IMIT) and for use by IT companies for organizational decisions. Under his direction, the organization successfully grew from 1200 employees and contractors to over 2300 in 7 years.

Lonnie was named the Executive Director of the Consortium for Enterprise Systems Management in January of 2009. He was instrumental in the formation of this collaborative organization that brings together IT industry companies like IBM and Computer Associates with universities, colleges and professional development organizations to address the need to grow and develop the talent pipeline for Information Technology. This effort is bringing national attention to South Carolina and the southeast region.

Lonnie serves on several boards, including the Midlands Educational Business Alliance, InnoVenture and the Insurance Technology and Services, SC cluster.

Lonnie received his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Northwest Missouri State University and was named to the NCAA Division II Academic All American team.
